Top Tips For Choosing The Right Natural Deodorant For You

Natural deodorants are gaining popularity in recent years, and they are not only more environmentally friendly than conventional deodorant products, but also potentially better for our health. They are also available in a range of appealing fragrances, such as lime sage deodorant.

Natural deodorants are free from parabens, aluminium, and synthetic fragrances, and so are less likely to irritate your skin or release toxins. However, if you have never dabbled with natural deodorant before, you might understandably have some reservations about whether or not they are right for you. Here are some tips for making a successful choice.

Consider your skin type

The first step is to assess your skin type. If you have very sensitive skin, a neutral deodorant that contains soothing ingredients such as aloe vera with no additional fragrances will be ideal for you. If you have naturally oily skin, look for ingredients that can help to absorb extra moisture, such as arrowroot powder.

If you have dry skin, look for moisturising ingredients such as shea butter and coconut oil. If you have normal skin that is usually in good condition, most types of natural deodorant should work for you, so it’s simply a case of finding your favourite scent and formulation.

Sometimes, our individual body chemistry means that some scents just don’t work for us, even if the smell is appealing before application. It may be a case of trying out a few sample products before you find your perfect match.

Consider your lifestyle

If you are a very active person or have a strenuous exercise routine, then you will want a deodorant that absorbs moisture as well as neutralises odours. Look for products that contain activated charcoal or magnesium, which are highly porous substances that will soak up perspiration and help to keep you feeling cool and comfortable.

For regular everyday use, a lighter deodorant with a pleasant scent should be sufficient. A further consideration is the packaging and application method of the deodorant. For example, some natural deodorants are supplied in reusable or recyclable tins or jars, and the product is applied with the fingertips.

Other types of application methods include sticks, creams, rollons, or sprays. Consider if the packaging is eco-friendly, or whether it will need to be disposed of in landfill.

Choosing your scent

Now you have got the basics sorted, you can get to the enjoyable process of finding your signature scent! Do you love florals such as lavender or white lily, or fresh citrusy scents such as lime, lemon and mint? Maybe you prefer sophisticated spicy or earthy fragrances such as frankincense.

Before you apply a natural deodorant for the first time, do a patch test to check for any adverse reactions. It might take a few weeks for you to adjust to the feel of the deodorant after using conventional products, so give it a chance if you feel unsure after the first few days, and soon you will enjoy a product with many health and environmental rewards.
